Sunny Day Geraniums

Hi to all  my blogger buddies. This is one I just finished called Sunny Day Geraniums. It is for the WCW group I belong to on Yahoo. We are doing shadow studies this month. We all need to pay attention to shadows that we see. You would be amazed at all the different colors reflected in them. I t is so easyto just paint the shadows in purple hues, but I challenge you to start looking at shadows and see if you can see different colors, and paint them in your paintings.

Mukilteo Lighthouse

I just finished this for a project on my online watercolor group WCW. This month's theme was anything having to do with the ocean. The reference photo was given to me from C.B.Clements who graciously gave me permission to use it.  In hindsite, I wished I had changed the composition to show more of the side of the building to give it more perspective.

Philippi Bridge

This is a commision piece I just finished. This bridge is in Philippi WV hence the name. The original burned down and was  then rebuilt. This is painted after the new bridge. I am pleased how it turned out.

I thought I would share my latest painting. I am not happy with how this one came out, although I do like the clouds. I think it is important to share even the not so great paintings so that everyone can see that we all have our bad days with our art. We need to realize that these mistakes help su to  grow as artists, and we need to just keep on painting and dont get discouraaged.

Home Grown

Here is the final painting. I have to thank my teacher for saving this one from the trashcan. It is just so amazing how someone else's eye can see things thet we cant. I think sometimes that we get so attached to our work, we just dont see it right. Do you agree?

WIP 2

Hi all, here is the next step of the basket WIP. I added more color to the lettuce, painted the knife color in, and defined the veggies some more. I also started on the bricks in the background by lightly brushing in the color so that it gave the texture of bricks. I am not happy with the table and will have to really work to getting that to look better.

I started working on this one in class last week. We are using just the 3 primary colors, so I chose cerelean blue, transparent yellow, and perylene red. We are painting it as if doing a plein aire, which is alot of fun. It sure is loser than my normal style and I am really liking it.

New Work

This painting was done for a project in WCW. The topic was white.  It was really fun to do, but alot of layering to get the shadows deep enough.
